Election Results & Seasons

Today in Guatemala, the whole front page of the newspaper was coverage that Obama is going to be the new president of the United States. If I understood the translation, it said something like "Now Change Will Happen".

It is really eye opening to me to see how much the people of Guatemala cared about the election and are happy that Obama won. I had a substitute teacher today and I asked her why she was glad Obama won. She told me that she thinks he will end the war in Iraq and that he will be better for the Guatemalan people living in the US.

On a different note, I learned today that Guatemala only has two seasons every year. They have verano (summer) and invierno (winter). Summer is from October - May so we are currently in summer. The temperature though feels more like fall. It is about 50 degrees at night and 70 degrees during the day. Inverano goes from May - October. The main difference is that it rains in inverano and it doesn't rain in verano as a general rule. So for this is correct. It hasn't rained since I have been here.

Time to go study more Spanish.
