Worship At The Dump

I wrote on my introduction how one of the most moving experiences for me when I was in the DR in June was the worship experience in the dump.

I was told when we were picked up at the airport that we probably wouldn't be able to go to the dump because the people who guard the dump have new rules about who can go and how often.

However, God will make a way where there seems to be no way. The team dropped off the translator to talk to the people who run the dump and told them how we wanted to bless the people with food. So, they let us go through the gates. We then unloaded the food and all of our stuff and the bus went up to the part of the dump where the people were. We didn't know if anybody would want to get in a bus to go down the road and risk missing the opportunity to search through a dump truck if one came out while they were gone. As the bus went up the road to try to find people, we got in a circle and prayed that people would get on the bus. A few minutes later, the bus came back and it was packed with people!

When we were at the dump in June, several of us took a picture of this lady worshiping God with such passion. I had several pictures of here by herself and with others. I showed the picture to one of the guys and I asked him if she was there. She was! I was able to talk to her and hug her. I found out her name is Malia.

We again sang for them and they sang for us and it was once again a wonderful worship experience.

I wish I could have taken pictures to share with people, but we were not allowed to take pictures. However, it made me focus more on etching the memories on my soul.

Today (Wednesday), it is pouring down rain and so we are not able to go to the work sites. It is difficult not to be able to go but it is a reminder of how much these people suffer. We are in a nice hotel and in the restraunt area there was rain dripping through the roof. I can't even imagine what it is like in the little shacks the people live in.
